BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO CREATE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE
The Met ball took place in New York last night and I as I perused through the event news and gossip, I could not stop staring in awe the gorgeous gowns some the celebs were donning. The theme was PUNK: Chaos to Couture. An absolutely fantastic theme! Everyone looked edgy, stellar and dressed to the nines. Madonna made a strongest impression with an unconventional Givenchy Haute Couture piece. Most of the press has decided to mock her (with a wee bit of reason), but this is a ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. High fashion is about expression and she made an impression whether one loves or hates it.
In any case here were my favourite looks from the event:
First up is Anne Hathaway who I hardly recognised at first as she usually dresses with much more demure! She was dressed in a perfectly fitting black vintage 1992 Valentino gown, her hair bleached platinum, cropped and slicked down at the sides. Those smokey eyes and lemon yellow nails add some extra edge and sass. The contrast of her hair and her skin against her dress creates a stunning ‘Wow!’ effect. Very risqué – I love this look on her!
Next up is Cara Delevingne in this black Burberry dress with illuminated with gold spikes and a plunging neckline, The side-braid, the necklace and the smokey-eye makeup – fierce, fierce, fierce!
There was also Gisele Bundchen who wore this black dress by Anthony Vaccarello. It is a subtle teaser which shows off her long legs and the shoes add some extra spunk and complete a punkie but very ‘Giselean’ look.
Sienna Miller also grabbed my attention with this stunning long white fitting dress, made more appropriate to the PUNK theme by the studded jacket and headband.
Before I start listing all the attendees such as Nicole Richie, Jessica Biel and Doutzen Kroes who took my breath away, I will finish with Jennifer Lopez in this backless leopard print gown. I like the way in which it is spotted with different sizes of the pattern and the train adds elegance. The hair… oh the hair; a punkie hawk/pompadour style reminiscent of the 1980s New Wave style. It is very current and goes perfectly with her gown. She could never have gone wrong with that smokey-eye make-up and that cute but simple sparkly black clutch either. Simply feisty and fabulous.
I am off to check out more Met ball news! xo
