BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO CREATE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE
I like to think that my taste in music is quite eclectic but that being said, I cannot live without the occasional a dose of cheesy pop music. Though I am much older than the average One Direction fan and band member (!), I did not want to miss their concert in Zurich because I am still so impressed at how far they have come since I was watched them in creation on X-Factor UK. I had to request that my boyfriend as well as many (many) of my friends keep their disapproving thoughts about my attendance to themselves, I kept my head held high and dragged my sister along with me to support the fellow Brits.
What a Night! We arrived about half an hour after the show had begun and the noise from the adoring teeny bopper fans was the loudest I have ever heard at a concert; slightly ear-meltingly painful at times. As I am only familiar with the singles released by One Direction there were some album tracks I could not connect to but I remained in awe at just how happy their fans were to be in their presence.
There was a little seven-year-old standing next to me making a heart shape with her hands throughout the whole night and it brought me back to my days as a very loyal Take That fan. It was adorable and I kept thinking ‘I know how you feel but I am glad it is over!’. At the risk of starting to ramble I will conclude that the tunes were sweet and bursting with pop. At times it would get a little too ‘poppy’, my sister and I would look at each other and wish the teetotal event had a secret bar in order to keep us entertained. The crowd was completely besotted, very loud and created a great atmosphere. They would shriek at whatever the boys did on stage. Oh to be in love with a boyband!
The 1D boys are likeable, handsome cheeky chappies and are very relaxed on stage. They did not do any dance routines but it did not seem to be necessary. Their fans probably did not even notice. The 1Dboys also constantly repeated how much they appreciated their fans and I enjoyed the element of innocence to their music as it appropriate to their fans. The stage setting and graphics were colourful, fresh and entertaining. At one point the boys floated and performed over the entire crowd on an open lift allowing everyone in the room to have a close look at them. A very good idea for the younger and smaller little girls who could not see them. I cannot say I am a dedicated Directioner but I was entertained, I danced, sang, screamed together with the crowd and had a great evening with my sister. Definitely one of my biggest guilty pleasures!
Kiss You – The boys sang a cheesy ‘Let me Swiss you’ as a last line and the crowd blew up with noise.
Live While We’re Young
What Makes you Beautiful
Cocktail of the night:-
Ice Tea at the concert and then after the concert my sister and I were on the ‘Porn Star Martinis’ in my favourite cocktail bar. The martini consists of vanilla vodka, passion fruit, Passoa, orange juice and a prosecco. Delicious drink but very dangerous if you have more than two and do not drink water before bed as my sister learnt the next day!
